Brackeys Game Jam 2023
We decided to participate in a game jam while we wait for our 4th year of University to start. It’s been a busy summer for sure and we wanted to relax and work on our skills as well as try to find a way of showcasing our other projects.
Game jams are an incredible opportunity where as a team we can come together and work on our ideas and practice our pitch and negotiation while we decide which functionality should be kept in or which mechanics should be kicked out.
We had to choose Brackeys as the game jam for us because:
Silviu : “Brackeys means so much to me for what the developer did for me and others, to teach me techniques and Unity in a way that anybody could learn it. It was one of the many inspirations that pushed me to want to go to College and learn more.”
Louise: ”The Brackeys YouTube channel was a lifesaver when I first started diving into Unity. I can’t even keep track of how many times I’ve struggled to add a new game mechanic or feature, only to hop on YouTube and find that Brackeys already had a tutorial covering exactly what I needed.”
What game are we making?
Well, we don’t want to give too much away before the prototype is released but as a genre, we chose horror.
Since our goal for all our games is to maximize their fun and immersion factor, we’ll be dedicating significant time to ensure they are enjoyable. And in this particular instance, we’re also aiming to make it extra scary too.
We have put a bit of time into the idea and having only 7 days to develop it we will be working around the clock to make the best experience we can in that time.
Story:
While avoiding excessive spoilers, our narrative revolves around an individual awakening at their campsite, embarking on a journey to reunite with their family. Our approach to storytelling involves utilizing various objects scattered throughout a linear world to convey the tale.
Controls:
We want these to be as easy as possible for players so we are looking to try and incorporate the new input system with W,A,S,D and mouse click for items. If we get enough time, we will look to have controller support as well.
Release:
We are not planning to release the game anywhere other than itch.io however if things work out and the game is something we enjoy we may consider revisiting it again soon.
