Studio update June ’24

Published by Silviu on

Hey everyone!

I wanted to write a quick update about the studio and how things are going. I currently have been efficiently full time running my studio since April, May when I submitted my dissertation before than I was literally split in 1000 different parts.

In January 2024, the studio (i.e., myself, as it’s only me for now) launched its first game, Rise of the Village Hero, in early access. The game did quite well in its first week, but things have since quieted down a lot at one point than picked up and now its a little here and there. Of course as any games there have also been refunds. I am super proud of my achievements, however, releasing a first game as an RPG is a super challenge so yeah its been a journey and I don’t regret a minute of it. But I have learned a lot. So will try and make more of these posts where I talk about the plans and what I want to achieve with my little studio.

So what were the main points that I learned from this release and what are the future plans for the studio?

Well I wish to talk about this in this post.

Lack of marketing:

The lack of marketing at the beginning of the launch really slowed interest. Nobody really live-streamed the game, partly because of my lack of understanding at the time about how to manage a launch. You have to start somewhere, as I mentioned in my YouTube video. See below. So that was a learning curve for me . I didn’t have a PR list that was setup and I had not reached out to content creators previous to the release it was a bit of a push the button and see what happens.

Developer Update: Focus and Future Plans

At the moment, my main focus is to uphold my promise to finish Rise of the Village Hero as good as possible. I committed to delivering four chapters by the end of early access.

Since the 0.4 update, I’ve reached out to many content creators and managed to connect with a larger target audience than I could have with just tweets or posts. The good news is that this outreach has helped me establish strong connections with numerous streamers, which should benefit my future studio releases.

Currently, the game development is progressing well, and the updates are coming together smoothly. I need to continuously improve the game and add more content. My main focus right now is to continue working on Rise of the Village Hero, releasing monthly updates to complete the game and reach version 1.0. Additionally, I am working on Path to Serenity, a smaller game I plan to release.

Near future plans for the studio

What about future games? I hope to release more smaller games, aiming to launch 1-2 games per year. I believe it’s important for the studio to consistently release new games and build upon the ones already available.

I am continuously working on securing funding and hopefully growing the studio. Although it is proving challenging, I won’t give up. I will keep trying and hopefully, it will come through.

I want to say thank you to everyone who followed me on my social media, wishlisted Rise of the Village Hero or even bought the game left a review. Helps me tremendously. Thank you for your support.

If you wish to wishlist my game, support my studio you can do so either via Patreon or via purchasing my game on Steam or on Itch io. Thank you very much.

I will see you at the next post.
