Rise of the Village Hero Oct Month End Update
Hey everyone!
Another month has gone by and its been a busy one. The other day I managed to release my update for the month just in time for Scottish Games Frenzy 24 an event where I will be exhibiting.
So here is what the update includes this month just the same as on Steam, Itch io has also been updated. On top of that Itch io has now the demo as well, which I hope will bring more players and more feedback to the game and hopefully more people interested to purchase the game on Itch io.
New area
Long Road to Wynter: This area is now open for exploration, battles, and quests. While much of it is still a work in progress, you’ll find various drops and some quests to tackle. More details on what’s to come are at the end of these notes.
Abilities & Combat
Whirlpool Pirouette:
Now available in levels 1-3, with enhanced animations and effects.
Combat Flow:
Character speed and acceleration have been increased for a more dynamic experience, and enemies have larger hit colliders for easier targeting. Plus, the player will automatically face enemies when performing abilities, adding to the immersion.
Weapons additions:
Several new weapons have been added, and some unique ones now drop from enemies. These can be used by the player, offering more variety and options in combat.
New Weapons
Dobroja’s Wrath:
Found in the spider caves (Chapter 2, Level 2).
King’s Defender:
Earned as a reward for completing the King’s Troll Demise quest.
The Untamed & Dawn:
Found in the Long Road to Wynter area, located between Chapters 2 and 3.
Audio & Feedback Enhancements
Sound Effects for Equipping: Unique sound effects now play when equipping different types of armor and equipment to give players auditory feedback.
Potion Feedback:
Sound effects now trigger when using potions, and no sound will play if a potion cant be used.
Ability Sounds:
Custom sound effects have been added for abilities like Whirlpool, enhancing feedback when used successfully.
Health & Stamina Alerts:
New audio cues play at half and critical levels, giving players more awareness during intense moments. (I recorded the voice myself. )
Improved Stat Descriptions & Bonuses
Charisma, Cunning, Dexterity Updates: Each attribute now has a clearer description and refined bonuses. This was feedback before that some of the stats didnt offer clear explanation of what they did so hopefully this is much clearer. Major change is Willpower no longer handles bonuses on regeneration that is handled by Dexterity. Cunning offers bonuses on Defence.
New Daggers:
Several new daggers have been added, enriching the arsenal for close-combat players, these are weapons that are also used by enemies so that is cool.
Blacksmith Scene Completed:
Ricker can now be found at the blacksmith, and he gives you som more goodies.
Story Elements & Quest Additions
Additional Story Content: Look out for more story elements, like the ones near the caves and boss levels in the first chapter, that add depth and lore to the world and help me tell the story I wish to tell.
Future Quests:
Planning to add quests in the areas between Chapters 2 and 3, including a link to White Shallows. Players choosing to ally with factions, such as the Elves, will have unique opportunities to tackle rival groups, including the Order of Obsidian Talons. Will try and add more depth as much as I can and to make sure that players decisions get carried over into future chapters. I am a solo dev so may not always be able to do it but I will try my best.

Next month, I’ll be focusing on even more quests in Long Road to Wynter as I continue to expand the area towards Chapter 3.
I hope to release a small Halloween patch on October 31st to celebrate the spooky season, so stay tuned! But depends on how busy I am getting with work.
