Tiny Fishing Villages – Devlog #6: UI Overhaul, New Buildings & Fishing Job Updates

Published by Silviu on

Hello everyone!

Welcome back to another development update for Tiny Fishing Villages. It’s been a busy and productive week, with several new improvements, features, and behind‑the‑scenes progress that I’m excited to share.

UI Improvements & Resource Updates

A big focus this week has been refining the user interface. I’ve added:

  • New resource tooltips to make information clearer, cosier and more accessible.
  • Updated placeholders for resources and UI just until proper Icons are made.
  • General UI polish to improve readability and flow
  • I have worked on the main menu and its looking really great in my opinion.

These changes will continue to evolve as development progresses, and they’re all aimed at making the experience as cosy, clear, and enjoyable as possible – reducing confusion, improving flow, and helping the game feel more polished with every update.

New Buildings Added

I’ve introduced several new buildings to bring more authenticity and life to the game world:

  • Pier – redesigned to be more accurate to most Scottish fishing communities
  • Postal Office – a new additional building
  • Inn

These buildings really help build a stronger sense of place and capture the feel of real Scottish coastal towns. There’s still plenty more to do, and as a solo developer I’m jumping back and forth between coding and Blender to keep the project moving.

Fishing Jobs & Workflow Improvements

Fishing jobs have received a round of iterated updates:

  • Improved UI flow when assigning boats to tasks
  • Clearer feedback when selecting fishing jobs -risks, reward type of fish etc-
  • Early groundwork for future fishing‑related mechanics and research, as each town will eventually have its own unique jobs, catch types, dangers, and payment structures

These changes are part of a larger effort to make the fishing economy feel more dynamic, meaningful, and true to the real communities that inspired the game.

Grant Update & Funding

I’ve recently closed off my Crowdfunder UK campaign, and thanks to some incredibly kind supporters, I was able to raise £310. While it’s not a huge amount, it genuinely helps — it allows me to pay myself a little, ease some of the pressure of business costs, and stay focused on what matters most: making this game the best it can be.

I’m now almost ready to submit my Creative Scotland grant application, with just a couple more letters of support to gather. If successful, this funding will help me achieve several important goals:

  • Outreach programmes for schools and communities in Scotland’s coastal towns and fishing villages
  • Collaboration with Scottish creatives and freelancers, creating much‑needed paid opportunities
  • Additional art and production support to help the project grow
  • More development time to polish the game, expand to more communities, and add even more content

It would make a huge difference to the project and to the communities I hope to work with. Fingers crossed — I’ll keep you updated as soon as I hear back.
